1958/1959 Record Player

1958/1959 Record Player

Description

Concert Grand. Record player and AM/FM radio. Built ca. 1958/1959. Magnavox advertised this unit as “the finest, most revolutionary high fidelity stereophonic instrument ever created.” The price for this unit began at $1,000. The unit was developed to replicate a symphonic arrangement of sound; i.e., the speakers are not “balanced” as in a normal stereo and include 2 woofers and 2 tweeters. It has a separate amplifier per channel (right and left), 42 individual tubes and was the first totally remote controlled record player and radio. “It has tremendous power (100 watts undistorted, 200 watts peak), switches and connections to permit the operation of stereo extension speakers throughout your home.”
